The development, to be known as the Waterfront Quarter, will take place on a six-acre site on the edge of Huddersfield town centre and will comprise a 300,000 sq ft purpose-built building for Kirklees College, 190,000 sq ft of offices and 300 new homes, as well as cafes, bars and other leisure facilities.

Paul Barber, Chief Executive of Strategic Sites, comments: “Today marks an important stage in making the Waterfront Quarter happen.  The scheme will revitalise an important part of Huddersfied town centre and become a vibrant community in which people will come to live, work, learn and play.”

Melanie Brooke, Vice-Principal at Kirklees College, adds:"This is a significant step towards giving the people of Kirklees an outstanding place to work and learn. We are delighted that work can soon begin on a new campus and our vision for an even better college can finally start to become a reality."

Construction work is likely to start within the next few months and the first phase will include the college building and up to 85,000 sq ft of grade A offices.  The entire project is likely to be completed by 2012.

Leeds-based property consultancy Dove Haigh Phillips has been appointed lead property consultants on the Waterfront Quarter.
