Strategic Sites Sponsors Greensteams

Greenstreams was launched by Huddersfield MP Barry Sheerman in September 2009.  It aims to enhance and manage stretches of the Rivers Colne, Holme and Calder in a way which encourages their use by the local community, benefit wildlife through the development of a high quality environment and provide an invaluable resource to educate a wide audience about the importance of our rivers.     

Paul Barber, Chief Executive of Strategic Sites said “As our Waterfront Quarter project in Huddersfield is alongside the River Colne, we are keen to help improve the quality of the environment along the river. To achieve this we wish to work alongside experts in this field and Greenstreams fit the bill perfectly. We are particularly impressed by the involvement of local people and school children in the Greenstreams initiative. Rivers are a fantastic natural resource and we should all cherish them more.”

Strategic Sites joins organisations such as Britvic Soft Drinks, FMG Support, Syngenta, Kirklees Council, The Ernest Cook Trust, Sita and Marks and Spencer in providing financial or support-in-kind to Greenstreams.

 With the support of sponsors and partners to Greenstreams, many activities have been carried out.  These include the clean up of the River Colne bank, supported by volunteers from the local community and businesses, the appointment of a warden to manage and monitor the River Colne and the involvement of local school children in classroom workshops and site visits.
