Partners hail progress at Huddersfield's Waterfront Quarter
Distinguished guests - including the Leader of Kirklees Council and the Principal of Kirklees College - have praised the progress being made in delivering the new further education college at the Waterfront Quarter.
Over 50 guests attended an event this evening to mark the completion of 25% of the college. Chris Sadler, Principal of Kirklees College, praised the team effort for reaching this milestone ahead of programme and said that everyone at the college was excited about the new campus opening in September 2012.
Mehboob Kahn, Leader of Kirklees Council, praised the public-private partnership that is working together to deliver not just the new college, but also the wider Waterfront Quarter project. He said "Waterfront Quarter will give a new heart to Huddersfield and act as an example of how, even in these diffiucult economic times, it is possible for parties from the public and private sectors to get things done."
The Waterfront Quarter project is a joint initiative between Kirklees College, Kirklees Council, Yorkshire Forward, Strategic Sites and the Skills Funding Agency. The whole development is being being managed by Strategic Sites and the main contractor on the new college building is Allenbuild.
In addition to the college, the project will comprise 3 major office buildings, 300 new homes, restaurants & bars and extensive new public realm areas.
